City residents will soon see smart poles on roads if the municipal corporation gives a go-ahead to the proposal that it received from a private company on Friday.
This will be a pilot project in the state. However, MC authorities will take the final call. Ludhiana was the first city from Punjab to make it to the first list of smart cities announced by the Centre.
This proposal includes installation of LED lights on 1,000 smart poles. These poles can also be fitted up with CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi networks and devices by telecom companies.

The capital city of Gandhinagar will be dotted with these intelligent streetlights as part of the Smart City Project. These smart poles will be connected to a control room where officials from Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC), police and fire will be stationed to monitor the goings-on and traffic in the capital and respond to calls made by citizens
